Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols surveys initial damage

Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols took a tour of some of the damage in North Tulsa Friday evening.

Nichols says that there are no reports of injuries in Tulsa at this time, but there is still a risk for storms later in the night, and people should stay home if they can.


Gov. Kevin Stitt ‘committed to assist’ with damage from storms in Green Country

Gov. Kevin Stitt released the following statement on Friday:

“Just got off calls with Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols and Beggs Mayor Roger Merrill following tornadoes in their communities this evening. We are committed to assist with their recovery efforts.

The state’s agencies remain engaged across Green Country this evening. Please continue to stay weather-aware as storms persist into the night.”

City of Tulsa assessing damage after possible tornado in North Tulsa

The City of Tulsa says crews are assessing damage after severe storms and a possible tornado moved through North Tulsa Friday evening.

City emergency response teams are checking roadways, infrastructure and damage reports while working with local emergency management partners. Officials say they are focusing on areas near 36th and 46th Street North, Lewis Avenue and Peoria Avenue.

Road closure

  • 36th Street North between Peoria Avenue and Lansing Avenue is closed due to downed power lines and a gas leak.
  • Officials say Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) plans to remove the lines Saturday morning.
  • The road will remain closed until crews finish the work.

Reported damage

The city says scattered reports of damage are coming in across parts of North Tulsa, including:

  • Roof damage
  • Tree damage
  • Several downed power lines

Residents are being asked not to travel in the area unless necessary to give crews room to work.

Power outages

Officials say more than 6,000 customers in Tulsa County are currently without power.

If you see a downed power line, treat it as live and dangerous and stay away. Do not touch it or attempt to drive over it.

There are reports of flash flooding near 111th and Garnett, where between 1 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen.

Just In: Beggs Public Schools campus damaged

Jeff Moore with Okmulgee County Emergency Management confirmed to News On 6 that the Beggs Public Schools campus has sustained damage.

The campus is located at 9th Street and Western Drive, where the district’s elementary, middle and high school buildings are all situated.

It is unclear how extensive the damage is. A News On 6 crew is heading to the scene and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Beryhill firefighter loses mobile home in west Bristow

A Berryhill firefighter has lost his mobile home in a tornado in West Bristow right off Highway 16.

He and his wife are okay, and he says that’s all that matters. He says they were watching the tornado come towards them and they went to shelter with just a few minutes to spare. He wants people to know it’s better to be safe than sorry and take cover as soon as possible.

In one of the pictures, you can see their car under the mobile home.

There is circulation in Bristow on the northwest side. Chief Meteorologist Travis Meyer said the circulation is likely a tornado but not confirmed on the ground.


Tornado Warning for Creek County

Creek County is under a Tornado Warning until 5:30 p.m. This is near Stroud and Depew, moving northeast toward Bristow.

Alan Crone’s storm track has it moving into Bellvue at 5:18 p.m. He said there’s potential for larger hail with this storm. It’s moving 35 MPH.
